Accommodation: AL falaj ****  or Ramada *****

Day 2: Nizwa & Jabal Akhdar
  • After breakfast, we set off on a journey to Nizwa, located approximately 150 km from Muscat. Our first stop is the historic Nizwa Fort, an architectural marvel that took over twelve years to construct and has stood as the city's guardian since the 17th century. The fort is best known for its massive circular tower, one of the largest of its kind, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the city and surrounding landscapes.
  • Next, we explore the lively Nizwa Souq, a bustling marketplace that captures the essence of traditional Omani commerce. The souq is filled with an array of local handicrafts, silver jewelry, and the iconic Omani khanjar (dagger). If you’re visiting on a Friday, you’ll have the unique opportunity to witness the famous cattle auction, a lively and authentic cultural experience.
  • From Nizwa, we continue to the abandoned village of Birkat Al Mauz, also known as Birkat Al Mawz or Birkat Al Mouz. The village, whose name means “Banana Pool”, was once home to vast banana plantations. Though it has remained abandoned for over half a century, its structures are remarkably well-preserved, offering a fascinating glimpse into the lives of past Omani villagers. Nestled at the base of Jebel Akhdar (The Green Mountain), the village is also home to the Aflaj irrigation system, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Enjoy a scenic walk through the lush oasis and date plantations before we proceed to Wadi Al Madeen.
  • We then embark on a 36 km ascent along a winding mountain road, leading us to the breathtaking heights of Jebel Akhdar (2,000m above sea level). Known as the "Green Jewel" of the Al Hajar Mountains, this region is famous for its terraced fruit orchards, where a variety of fruits such as peaches, apricots, figs, grapes, apples, pears, plums, almonds, and walnuts thrive. The region is particularly renowned for its exceptional quality pomegranates, cultivated with the help of natural springs and the ancient Aflaj irrigation system.
  • Our tour continues through the charming mountain villages of Saiq, Wadi Bani Habib (known for its old houses), and Al Ain, each offering breathtaking views of dramatic peaks, deep gorges, and scenic wadis.
  • If visiting during March and April, you’ll be welcomed by the sweet fragrance of Damask roses in full bloom. This is the season when locals distill rose water using traditional methods, a process that can be witnessed in village homes.
  • After an enriching day of exploration, we conclude our journey with an overnight stay at a Jebel Akhdar hotel, where you can relax and soak in the tranquility of the mountains.

Day 3: Wahiba Sands & Wadi Bani Khalid – Desert Camp

Wake up to a stunning view of the Jebel Akhdar mountains, where the cool morning air invites you to enjoy a delicious breakfast at the hotel. Afterward, we drive through Oman’s countryside, where breathtaking landscapes unfold at every turn.

As we venture deeper into the desert, the scenery transforms into vast stretches of golden sand. Our destination: the awe-inspiring Wahiba Sands, also known as Al Sharqiya Sands or Ramlat al Wahiba. Here, you’ll experience the true magnificence of Oman’s desert, Then, the iconic Wahiba Sands. Known as a mesmerizing “sand sea,” Wahiba Sands features towering orange dunes that stretch endlessly from north to south, some reaching heights of 100 meters. Your experienced driver will take you on an exhilarating dunebashing adventure, weaving through the rolling sands. Afterward, visit a Bedouin house to meet local women and learn about their desert way of life. Savor traditional Omani coffee and dates as you gain insight into their culture and resilience.

Next, we make our way to Wadi Bani Khalid, a true desert oasis. Amidst the dry heat of the surrounding sands, you’ll discover a hidden paradise—sparkling blue pools surrounded by date palms and dramatic rocky valleys. This Wadi is not just one spot, but an expansive area that includes several villages nestled in the rocky hills. The crystal-clear waters in the pools invite you to cool off, and a waterfall adds to the tranquility of the scene. For those seeking adventure, some parts of the Wadi are home to hidden caves—but be sure to explore with a guide.

After an unforgettable day, we head to the desert Camp for a magical dinner beneath the stars, set amid the dunes. After enjoying traditional Omani cuisine, you can retire for the night and rest, surrounded by the serenity of the desert.

Day 4: Wahiba Sands – Sur - Bimah Sinkhole – Wadi Shahab - Muscat

Rise and shine with a breathtaking view of the shifting sands from your campsite. Enjoy a hearty breakfast before gearing up for an exhilarating experience—dune bashing! Feel the rush of adrenaline as you race through the towering dunes, an unforgettable ride that’s sure to leave your heart pounding.

Next, we make our way to the coastal town of Sur, a charming seaside village that offers a peek into the traditional life of Oman’s coastal communities. This quaint town is a treasure trove of history, where ancient fishing practices and maritime heritage come to life.

A highlight of our visit is the Dhow Factory, renowned for its craftsmanship in building the iconic Omani dhows (traditional wooden fishing boats). As we stroll through the Dhow Yard, you’ll witness the fascinating process of boatbuilding, with dhows in various stages of construction, and learn about the town’s long-standing shipbuilding legacy.

After a restful lunch, we set off for Muscat, taking the scenic coastal route. Our first stop is Fins Beach, a hidden gem with powdery white sands and sparkling blue waters. This serene beach remains largely untouched by tourists, offering a peaceful retreat to swim, relax, and soak in the natural beauty without the crowds.

From there, we head to the Bimah Sinkhole, a striking natural wonder. Known locally as Bait al-Afreet, this giant limestone crater is home to crystal-clear blue-green waters, creating a striking contrast against the surrounding desert landscape. Take a moment to marvel at this incredible geological feature before we continue our journey.

Then visit Wadi Shab, one of Oman’s most stunning wadis, famous for its emerald-green pools and dramatic cliffs. Enjoy hiking through its rugged terrain, swimming in its refreshing waters, and exploring narrow caves that lead to a magical hidden waterfall. It’s an unforgettable adventure in the heart of Oman’s natural beauty.

As we wind our way through the Eastern Hajar mountains, we’ll pass through scenic villages and narrow valleys, taking in the stunning views of Oman’s rugged terrain. This picturesque drive concludes as we make our way back to Muscat.
