• Begin your Desert Tour at 1:00 PM with a hotel pick-up. Drive through the scenic Qarah Mountains, where rugged cliffs and mountain roads open into sweeping desert landscapes.
• Stop at Thumrait Town, once a Bedouin settlement and a vital stop for caravans during the frankincense trade. Its history as a desert crossroads gives a glimpse into Oman’s nomadic past.
• Visit the Lost City of Ubar (UNESCO) – Known as the “Atlantis of the Sands,” this archaeological site was buried under shifting dunes for centuries. Walk among the ruins, once a bustling trading hub that connected southern Arabia to the wider world.
• Arrive at the Empty Quarter about an hour before sunset. Experience the thrill of dune bashing with an expert driver, try sand trekking, and climb one of the highest dunes for breathtaking panoramic views of the vast desert. Watch the sun sink into the golden horizon—a magical sight unique to the Rub’ al Khali. Then return to Salalah hotel after dark.
